South Korean zombie flick Train to Busan made a stir back in 2016, with a sold-out screening at IFI's Horrorthon event. Now Screen Daily reports that director Yeon Sang-ho is working on a sequel.
Train to Busan centred on a businessman and his estranged daughter who become trapped on a speeding train during a zombie outbreak in South Korea. It was a box-office hit and received rave reviews for its three dimensional characters, social commentary and skillfully staged action.
While the world of the film was already fleshed out further in animated prequel Seoul Station, sequel Bando (which means 'peninsula') will take place after the events of Busan.
According to Screen Daily, Yeon said it won't be a straight sequel: “It is an extension of Train To Busan, after the virus has spread throughout Korea, but the characters are not the same. It shares the same world view and is a zombie action film that deals with the aftermath on the peninsula of what happened in Train To Busan.”

Screen Daily also report that Yeon is still in the writing stage and in talks with investor-distributor Next Entertainment World about handling Bando. Casting and budget details are yet to be confirmed.
Since making Train to Busan, Yeon directed Psychokinesis, a superhero film about a deadbeat dad who gains telekinesis. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
