Travellers Together Preventing Suicide increases national awareness around high suicide rates within Ireland's Traveller community.
A live concert in aid of suicide prevention in the Irish Traveller community will take place on January 28th, 2023.
Travellers are identified as a 'high-risk' group for suicide, which is six times higher for Traveller women and seven times higher for Traveller men than the settled general population.
The campaign hopes to promote various Traveller organisations coping with these taboo issues as well as creating a welcoming community in which Travellers can feel safe within. Pavee Point, the Irish Traveller Movement and more are involved, combining resources with Dublin City Council and Exchange House Ireland.
This year's theme will follow several art showcases. Participants can demonstrate talent in music, poetry, dance, visual arts, and more to show their support for the Traveller community across Ireland, with comedian Martin Beanz Warde acting as MC on the night. Funds on the night will go towards the Traveller mental health network, and the event is €5 at the door for tickets.
There will be trained staff in attendance during the event for anybody who is in need for emotional support.
Three different events will take place the whole day on the campus of Belvedere College, Dublin 1 on Janurary 28th. The spoken word and panel discussion is from 15:00 to 16:30, an art exhibition from 17:00 to 17:45, and finally the concert will be from 18:00 to 20:30 at the O'Reilly Theatre.
