Jay-Z’s new docuseries delves into the circumstances of Trayvon Martin’s tragic death, and the tidal wave of anger and unrest that followed.
Yesterday, American rapper Jay-Z premiered his brand new docuseries, “Rest in Power”, following the execution of Trayvon Martin which polarized the American people.
The six-part documentary series analyzes the flaws in the American judicial system (chiefly Florida’s “stand your ground” law) and the potent racial tensions that continues to plague the country. Filmmakers utilized raw clips, documents and in-person interviews to depict the travesty.
In addition to documenting the events leading up to Martin’s murder, the series offers a more comprehensive view of societal factors that contributed to the young man’s death. Viewers get a look into the gun rights advocates, political stakes and systematic racism used to justify Martin’s death and ultimately acquit his killer, George Zimmerman.
