"Richard was a tireless advocate, both in proceedings and in the public arena," the Law Society of Ireland wrote.
Tributes are pouring in online for well-known Irish solicitor Richard Grogan, who has died aged 65, following a short illness. Grogan was famed for his videos on TikTok and Instagram, in which he made helpful information about employment law accessible to young people.
His TikTok videos – which he signed off with the catchphrase: 'That's the law, and that's a fact' – have garnered over 2.2 million likes.
Earlier this month, Grogan was named Lawyer of the Year at the Irish Law Awards 2022.
The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar is among those who have paid tribute to the solicitor.
"Really sorry to hear that Richard Grogan has passed," he wrote on Twitter. "His videos on employment law were straightforward and informative. We all used to watch them in the Department. We have lost a servant of the people - that’s a fact."

RIP Richard Grogan. He had been unwell for some months but wore his illness with bravery and stoicism. His work in making employment law accessible to the consumer and in the most simple terms will never be forgotten.

He helped out a lot of young workers and was able to communicate their rights effectively to them. This is a damn, damn shame. RIP Richard Grogan. That’s the law, and that’s a fact. ❤️

Young workers in Ireland, regardless of industry but from my experience in healthcare, are vulnerable to exploitation.
Richard Grogan will be sorely missed for his bite-sized and memorable employment law advice, and I hope more public educators like him arise to fill this need.— Dr. Shubhangi Karmakar 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ (@Repealist_) November 23, 2022
