Lipton is remembered for being a gifted actress and generous, beautiful soul.
American actress Peggy Lipton, who starred in Twin Peaks and The Mod Squad, died of cancer on Saturday at the age of 72.
Lipton's daughters, Rashida and Kidada Jones, released a statement following her death saying she died peacefully with her family around her.
"We are heartbroken that our beloved mother passed away from cancer today," they said. "She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side. We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her. We can’t put all of our feelings into words right now but we will say: Peggy was, and will always be our beacon of light, both in this world and beyond. She will always be a part of us."
Lipton's role in The Mod Squad landed her a Golden Globe for Best TV Actress in a Drama in 1971 and an Emmy nomination. In 1974, Lipton took a hiatus from acting following her marriage to Quincy Jones, with whom she had two daughters, to spend time with family. 14 years later, she returned to the screen with her role as Norma Jennings in David Lynch's Twin Peaks TV series.
Tributes to the actress poured in on social media following the news.

https://t.co/KzdCbbuFKm I lost a sister today. She was a true angel on earth. Always the coolest in the room. You couldn’t fit anymore love into that gorgeous soul of hers and she shared her heart generously with everyone around her... (cont’d) #PeggyLipton #NormaAndShelly4Ever pic.twitter.com/xMMI7jI2gG

I’m heartbroken. I had the opportunity to work with Peggy for a few days on a film. I absolutely fell in love with her. I’ve honestly always thought of Peggy as...perfect. Honest, funny, nurturing, oh and loved some good, juicy, gossip💔 https://t.co/RfQd0CqJG3
