I'M NOT entirely sure that it's what the web's founding fathers had in mind when they put up the first server, but as an example of how the 'Net has given individuals a global voice, you won't find better than the homepage maintained by a Turkish fellow named Mahir.

Fast approaching a "Dancing Baby" level of notoriety in the States, the moustachioed gentleman's "I Kiss You" site is targeted at Shirley Valentines looking for a spot of holiday romance.
"My profession jurnalist, music and sport teacher," their would-be amour writes. "I make psycolojy doctora. I like to take foto-camera (amimals, towns, nice nude models and peoples).
"My tall 1.84cm (6.2 feet). My weight 78kg. My eyes green. I live alone!!!!!!!! I have home, car. I like sex. I like travel. I go 3-4 country every year. I like to be friendship from different country. I live in town Izmir (4 million peoples) - near the sea, old history.
"Who is want to come Turkey I can invitate. She can stay my home."
We're then treated to snaps of the Black Sea Bachelor - eat your heart out, Joe Dolan! - playing ping pong, posing in front of a sports car and sipping tea with even more luxuriantly-whiskered friends.
"Something about Mahir's home page has tickled the Net's communal funnybone," writes Salon hackette Janelle Browne. "Last Tuesday, when I was first forwarded the URL by a co-worker, the site counter boasted 11,000 visitors. By the end of the day, when I had received the page from two more friends, it had topped 100,000. By Monday, when my sister forwarded it to me, it was topping half a million. Not bad for an anonymous guy from Turkey."
As Browne points out, "It is, of course, quite possible that 'Mahir' is an invention of some huckster kid with an intriguing set of photos who wanted to make fun of foreigners. I like to think that he's just some homely guy whose dreams of making friends online have been wildly exceeded."
