A new U2 EP is always an event – and this one has the added intrigue of a special purpose. Released to mark Record Store Day, it will be available in independent record stores on April 13.
U2 will be releasing The Europa EP, a new 3-track EP, on April 13, to celebrate Record Store Day.
The Europa EP features previously unreleased live material from their eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE tour, as well as two Euro-tinged remixes, and is accompanied by an EP cover which nods both to Charlie Chaplin (his 130th birthday is on April 16) and to the cover art of U2's 1993 album Zooropa.
Side A of the EP consists of a mash-up of Charlie Chaplin's iconic speech from The Great Dictator, Songs of Experience track 'Love Is All We Have Left' and the 1993 classic 'Zooropa', before launching into a live performance, recorded in Dublin, of 'New Year's Day'. This is, in effect, a radically new U2 track, though the component songs will be familiar to U2 fans.

Side B features the St. Francis Hotel remix of the classic from the War album, 'New Year's Day' – it was the first single from the album – and Jon Pleased Wimmin's Euromantic mix of 'Love Is All We Have Left'.
The Europa EP will be available at participating independent record stores on April 13. Record Store Day was inaugurated in 2008 and has been held in April every year since. It aims to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store. Check out www.recordstoreday.co.uk for record stores in your area.
