After releasing their album Songs of Surrender, the beloved Irish band U2 have topped the Official Irish Albums Charts.
Earlier this month, Hot Press reviewed U2's Songs Of Surrender album, a re-imagined and revived collection of their 40 most celebrated hits from the rock band's near 50-year long career.
Now, that same album has reached #1 of Ireland's Official Album Charts, coming ahead of Miley Cyrus's Endless Summer Vacation, The Weeknd's The Highlights, and Taylor Swift's Midnights. Currently, U2 also holds the top 5 spot with their collection U218 Singles.
Released after Bono's memoir Surrender, and his book tour Stories of Surrender, the album dropped on St. Patrick's Day, feeding the fuel of a rock-and-roll crazed fan base embroiled in Irish pride.
Speaking of the re-recorded collection in a pre-release teaser, the Edge explained the significance of revisiting the band's old work. He's also the cover star of this month's issue of Hot Press, complete with an special interview delving into his creative life.
“Most of our work was written and recorded when we were a bunch of very young men," he Those songs mean something quite different to us now.”
Some of the songs have been slightly altered as a part of the re-imagining, something Bono revealed in his memoir. Still, they clearly remain well-loved, the artistry behind the songs' intent just as phenomenal as they were when they were first released.
