United Against Racism have called a counter-protest to take place outside the GPO in Dublin tomorrow, Saturday, April 26, at 1:30 p.m.

The organisation stated that the rally is a "counter protest against a far-right anti-immigrant demonstration that is happening in Dublin" and that "we cannot let fascists walk through our city unchallenged."

The rally is supported by over 40 organisations and societies standing together against racism.

United Against Racism released an official statement on social media to explain why the protest is taking place:

"Dublin is diverse, with people living and working here from across the world. When the far-right lead marches through our cities unopposed, they spread fear and intimidation in our communities. They peddle misinformation to dehumanise minorities, implying migrants are dangerous, playing on people's anger for their own gain.

"Far-right politicians are offering an easy way out for those responsible for the many issues we face, from the housing crisis to hospital waiting lists. They want people who are struggling to blame other people who are struggling. But it isn't migrants who are responsible, it is those at the top. The wealthy and the powerful, and the Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael governments who have overseen years of austerity and homelessness.

"Don't let the far-right divide our communities.

They continued, "Those leading the far-right rally happily meet with rapists like Conor McGregor, and millionaire grifters like Tucker Carlson. They call for the roll-back of abortion rights and march side-by-side with loyalist paramilitaries. The far-right demonstration is endorsed by the National Party, who's former leader described Hitler as the "greatest leader of all time".

"Don't let the far-right pretend they represent Ireland.

They finish with a call to action: "We are calling all progressives across Dublin to stand up on Saturday. Bring flags, bring banners and meet us at the GPO at 1:30pm. We want to show that Dublin stands up to the far-right, and that we want diversity not division."
