The film will focus on Madonna's early career in the 80s, her love life, and her struggles with sexism in the industry.
Universal has acquired the script for Blond Ambition, Elyse Hollander's film about the early career of Madonna. The script was high on last year's Black List, which ranks Hollywood’s most-liked unproduced screenplays. This is Hollander's first script, though she has worked as an assistant on ambitious projects such as Alejandro G. Inarritu's Birdman.
The new biopic will track Madonna's early career, starting from when she left her Michigan home to pursue stardom in New York. A failed rock-and-roll career led to her discovery of pop music, which led to her debut self-titled pop album in 1983. The album included such hits as "Holiday," "Borderline" and "Lucky Star," making it possible for her to create her breakthrough album Like A Virgin.
The film will be produced by Michael De Luca and Brett Ratner. It's too early to have an idea of who will portray the pop star, but she'll have to be a triple threat to be able to nail Madonna's vocals and dance moves in addition to acting the part.
