Wake Me Up Before You Go Go
When a bunch of American college kids arrive at a cabin in the woods, you know things are going to take a turn for the worse. These youths make up and break up, while a stalker picks them off in inventive ways.
Sony’s new game is a dead ringer for every slasher film on the block: from Halloween to the Evil Dead. While the premise might be as original as a Rolex knock-off, the gameplay is a fresh display of decisions, consequences, and frights.
Flip from one character to another, choosing which path to take, where to hide when a masked freak with a meat cleaver is in chase, whether to rescue a fallen comrade or save your own skin. The fate of every character is in your sweaty paws.
The character animation, featuring performances from Hayden Panettiere and Peter Stormare, is excellent, only occasionally veering into “uncanny valley”.
The story gets a bit Scooby Doo, but the “boo” moments will have you leaping out of your boxer shorts – and the chase scenes are the stuff of nightmares.
