US Politics, Great American Novels, Post-Apocalyptic Trains, and More in May Netflix Lineup.
Netflix has announced that political documentary Knock Down the House comes to the streaming service in May. Following the primary elections of up and coming American politicians Amy Vilela, Cori Bush, Paula Jean Swearengin, and the now famous Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, the film premiered at Sundance 2019. The film gains a newfound significance now, with Ocasio Cortez, despite the other candidates’ failed primary runs, having been elected to the US house of representatives, and having made quite the name for herself in only her first year. You can watch the documentary on May 1st to learn more about her, the people that ran alongside her, and the general state of US politics.
May also brings with it a slew of original series debuts, returning favorites, and more by way of Derry Girls season 1, the Amy-Poelher-starring Wine Country, and cult classic Shaun of the Dead. Other highlights include The Society, which follows a group of wealthy, West Ham teens after everyone else in their town disappears overnight, and the newest feature film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Toby Maguire.

Don’t miss sleeper hit Snowpiercer, the indie film adaptation of French graphic novel Le Transperceneige about a post-apocalyptic word in which the entirety of humanity is confined to a single, massive train amidst the snowy tundra. The film won huge critical acclaim upon its release, and is now considered one of the best action movies of its time. It also features an early starring role for Chris Evans, only a year after his debut as Captain America in the absurdly successful Avengers series.
