Irish alternative outfit Scattered Ashes shared their first release, Parallel Lines, in May this year to much fanfare.
With a debut EP under their belt and a number of upcoming gigs to prepare for, Dublin post-punk outfit Scattered Ashes have shared the video for their latest single 'Slow Motion'.
Premiered below by Hot Press, 'Slow Motion' deals with the helpless surrender of a deteriorating relationship. It's about watching the person you love change before your own eyes but feeling powerless to stop it, in doing so you become a prisoner of time, waiting for the final nail in the coffin to declare your commitment null and void.
The tune, recorded with Fontaines D.C. producer Daniel Doherty, will be included on another EP coming in 2022. With a darkened clip that exacerbates the edge behind the song's guitar riffs and subject matter, the video sees the band perform live with slowed down, interspersed clips of Dalton holding white flowers. Full of symbolism that emphasises the track's personal lyrics; it's perfectly cinematic.
"We wanted to create something cinematic and slightly morose," Scattered Ashes singer and rhythm guitarist Robert Dalton tells Hot Press. "It was important for us to reflect on the weight of loss while also honing in on the live aspect of the band. Our own vision was perfectly complemented by Dock's (our Director) who managed to achieve all we imagined and more. We decided on (Conor) Dock as director after seeing his work with The Wha, Fontaines, and of course his own band... The Scratch."
"Kev from the Thomas House was nice enough to let us use the premises for the day, the Thomas House being a sort of spiritual home for us," Dalton adds. "We shot this under considerable pressure within a very narrow timeframe and somehow managed to produce an incredible piece of art in the end. We knew we had created something very special as soon as we saw the first cuts."
