The Irish feature documentary The Farthest, which tells the story of the Voyager space mission, is scheduled for a North American release.
The Irish documentary The Farthest is on course for success. The film will be released in Irish theatres this week and is set for a wider release in the United States in early August.
The film has already been heralded by The Sunday Independent as “one of the big screen events of the year” and received international acclaim from critics at a variety of film festivals. Closer to home, the documentary recently won the coveted AUDI-ence award as well as Best Irish Documentary and the George Byrne Maverick Award at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival.
The film follows the story of the Voyager space mission, a NASA initiative in the 1970’s that launched the first probes to reach the outer limits of our solar system. Under the guidance of Carl Sagan, the mission also launched into space the Voyager Golden Record, a collection of Chuck Berry, Bach, field recordings, and greetings in every language. The record was meant as a gesture of hope and peace towards any alien life that might encounter it. The mission remains one of humanity’s greatest and most beautiful achievements.
