An unlikely pairing! The superstar rapper and presidential hopeful are teaming-up ahead of 2020 American elections.
Bernie Sanders and Cardi B chatting away about politics in a Detroit nail salon? What a surreal sight! Not so surprising though, knowing that the Bronx artist has openly been supporting the democrat politician for quite some time.
Very vocal about her political stance, Cardi decided to join forces with the independent senator from Vermont by taking part in a filmed interview as part of his campaign. Together, they discuss various aspects of politics and economy, including minimum wages, student debts and climate change.
The surprising pairing comes at a very strategic time, as the leading-up to the 2020 American elections get off to a flying start.
On August 12, Cardi B posted a clip of the interview on her Instagram account which you can watch it below:

She had already teased her fans about the encounter when she published the following Instagram post on July 30:
In a rather timely way, Sanders praised the rapper last week: “We have talked on the phone on several occasions. She is really smart, and she is deeply concerned about what’s happening in this country,” he explained.
“She comes from a humble background. She knows what it’s like to live in poverty, to struggle, and she wants to make sure we can improve life for working people, and I’m delighted that she’s a supporter.”
Lately, Cardi B has really been sticking up for her progressive values, despite many detractors arguing that her opinion does not matter, due to her stripper past.
However, she was also praised by many and deemed commendable for speaking about politics and trying to encourage young people to vote - something which is very rare in the hip-hop industry which usually stays silent about such topics despite its importance.
A potential lack of young votes is something that got Sanders particularly preoccupied. “We [are] working on a way to involve more young people in the political process,” he told CNN. “The future of America depends on young people. They are voting in large numbers, but not large enough numbers.”
Will Cardi B stepping in be a game changer? Only time will tell.
