A swathe of esteemed musicians and actors joined together to celebrate iconic Beach Boys songwriter Brian Wilson's eightieth birthday.
The compilation video opened with Elton John sending his love and birthday wishes from Denmark, adding that to him Wilson is "the only real pop genius in the world.” Smokey Robinson sang 'Happy Birthday' before Barry Gibb spoke of his admiration for the singer saying “I followed you all of my life, from the first time I heard you guys with probably ‘I Get Around’, I was floored by that, you’re an inspiration, your insights into chord changes and your insights into harmony have been overwhelming to me.”
Carole King, Graham Nash, David Crosby, John Fogerty and Mickey Dolenz can all be seen in the video alongside Danny Hutton who said “you are my friend, my brother, my mentor, Happy 80th Birthday." Also featured in the celebratory video are Irish-American singer Danny Hutton, Stephen Bishop, guitarist Joe Walsh, director Cameron Crowe, actors Jeff Bridges and John Cusack, Don Was and Lyle Lovett who said, "getting to sing ‘God Only Knows’, in front of you at your Kennedy Center honour is the highlight of my career and my life.” The video closed with appearances from fellow cofounder of The Beach Boys Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin, The Brian Wilson Band, Chuck D, Jim James, M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel of indie duo She & Him, Quest Love and Fleet Foxes. Bob Dylan ultimately finished off the video with a classic performance of 'Happy Birthday' in celebration of the music legend.
