Following the release of Episode 1 of All Rise: Kells Courthouse Sessions over the weekend, we're thrilled to bring you the next highly anticipated episode – presented in collaboration with Sofft Productions, with the support of Meath Arts Office, under the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media's Local Live Performance Scheme.
Episode 2 once again provides a platform for Meath artists to showcase and document new work in the historic setting of Kells Courthouse – with appearances from Deirdre Kinahan, Atelica, Tommy Keyes, IF and JJ Bloom.
The goal of All Rise is for music with rural roots to claim sanctuary in Kells Courthouse, which was built in 1801. Designed by Irish architect Francis Johnston – who also designed the GPO, Nelson’s Pillar, Townley Hall and the East Gate entrance to Slane Castle – the downstairs was used as a courthouse where Quarter Sessions were held for the county, while the front of the Courthouse features a 10th-century cross.
Here's who you can look forward to in today's episode:
- Deirdre Kinahan: Award-winning playwright and elected member of Aosdána
- Atelica: "Dark pop" musician and producer.
- Tommy Keyes: Keyboard player for Sidewinder, a mainstay of the Dublin rock scene in the late 1970s. He also wrote many of their most popular songs.
- IF: Comprised of seven band members – who have played in various reggae, jazz and rock outfits over the years – IF have come together to create their own original fusion of influences.
- JJ Bloom: The alias of Irish songwriter/producer Conor Mc Quaid, a singer and songwriter from Meath
