The newest trailer for HBO's science fiction thriller brings the channel's hallmark of copious nudity.
Westworld is HBO’s newest genre work, a double dosage with western and science fiction, which follows the success of fantasy work Game of Thrones. The latest tralier focuses heavily on one of the show’s robotic characters, Dolores, played by Evan Rachel Wood.
The new television series is based on the Westworld movie from the seventies. From the mind of Michael Crichton, author of Andromeda Strain and Jurassic Park, it tells of fully realized recreations of Ancient Rome, Medieval Europe, and the American Wild West, done as theme parks for rich guests to live out their fantasies. Because of a computer virus, the robots begin to misbehave, killing the park guests and the staff. A success upon release, it has remained a cult classic for fans of science fiction.
The new show looks to expand upon the original concept in ways that a ninety minute thriller could not. Wood’s robot character has no parallel in the original movie. It looks like she will be the audience’s window into the AI of the setting. The gunslinger of the movie could be seen as a precursor to Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 from the Terminator movies. He will be in the show, and we hope he is as scary now as he was back then.
