Kean Kavanagh returns today with soulful new single ‘Heart Attacks’, accompanied by a video filmed in London.
Following on from his debut project Dog Person with the hazy, dream-like summer groover ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Heart Attacks’ delivers a new personal perspective, fresh from the ever-churning mind of Kavanagh.
“I really got into the song when I figured out it was about this man who is some sort of time traveller or loop victim; still don't know which," Kean explains of the single. "And he's reliving something from his youth, by choice or otherwise. I called him Bill, anyway. I had the song finished three weeks before Bill Murray in Groundhog Day came into my head; my subconscious blasting its way out maybe. Big shout to Sam (Karma Kid), we made the music for this the first day we ever met in his studio in London, and Ryan Hargadon on the keys.”
The track comes with a video directed by Kean's Soft Boy Records partner in crime Kojaque, and comes ahead of his first Irish tour in April 2022, and a headline show in London’s Courtyard Theatre.
Kavanagh firmly stepped into the limelight with previous singles 'Roll Over!' and 'EMMA' from his debut EP, which garnered him major Irish and UK support.

Cofounder, producer and A&R of Irish Label Soft Boy Records, Kean had previously pulled the strings behind the scenes; but is now becoming one of the most exciting names on the emerging music scene. A storyteller, wordsmith and dexterous musician with a strong imagination, Kean’s career is set to project far beyond his Irish roots with credits across Soft Boy Records co-founder Kojaque’s Town’s Dead debut album.
Founded in 2015, Soft Boy Records morphed into a cultural behemoth that gripped the Irish music scene. Kean found himself sharing stages with big names such as Slowthai and Lana Del Ray, as well as his consequential solo-slots opening for Maverick Sabre and Vampire Weekend.
In 2020, Kean appeared on the Everything is Recorded project FRIDAY FOREVER, curated by Richard Russell of XL Recordings. Aitch, Flohio, Maria Somerville, Ghostface Killah and others featured, allowing Kavanagh to align himself with incredible musical peers.
‘Heart Attacks’ marks the promise of more new material from this burgeoning young talent, who heads out on a US tour with Kojaque and a headline tour of Ireland and the UK in April and May.
