I, Daniel Blake was the winner of the prestigious Palme D'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.
The searing social commentary on the British State with its impassioned fire is the second winner of the Palme D'Or from Ken Loach. Back in 2006, Loach's The Wind That Shakes The Barley was the worthy winner.
I, Daniel Blake was the talk of Cannes town when it debuted back in May but now audiences are getting a teaser taste of why I, Daniel Blake is so impressive. The trailer emphasizes Loach's ability to critique and capture the humanist dramas that affect everyday lives. It follows the story of Daniel Blake (played by comedian Dave Jones) who after suffering from a heart attack faces the ageist mentality of the workplace. As a fifty-something year old, he tries to grapple with the new ways of the working world and struggles. Relying on the State to help ease him into the workplace, Blake soon realises the inhumanity of the State as he is left feeling useless and a hindrance. He befriends a young single mother and her two children as they find themselves in similar dire situations with no help to rely upon apart from each others.
Audiences will get to experience the film that had Cannes raving when I, Daniel Blake hits cinemas on October 21.
