With his first English-language debut, Chilean director Pablo Larraín releases Jackie, a raw portrait of the iconic 1960s American First Lady.
A trailer has been released for the Pablo Larraín directed cinematic portrayal of John F. Kennedy’s wife Jacqueline Kennedy.
The biographical film covers the days after her husband’s assassination in 1963 and places the audience in the world of Jackie’s life as a widow in the White House. Natalie Portman portrays the former First Lady and she shows her struggles to maintain Kennedy’s legacy and her fights through grief and trauma due to her husband’s untimely death.
Natalie Portman said that during research for her role she discovered two entirely different sides of Jacqueline Kennedy: “When she was doing interviews [her voice] was a lot more girly and soft, and when you hear her talking to Schlesinger at home, you can hear the ice in the glass clinking and the voice is a little deeper and her wit comes out more, so you get the real sense of two sides.”

Larraín additionally stated that the idea for the film came to him because the story of Kennedy “had all the elements that you need for a movie: rage, curiosity and love.”
The drama, also starring Greta Gerwig, Billy Crudup, Richard E Grant and John Hurt, will be in U.S. cinemas on December 2. The UK date has not yet been announced.
