Brand new series Narcos: Mexico comes about as a spin-off to popular Netflix show Narcos which came out in 2015. After three seasons of Narcos, Netflix decided to relaunch the show with a new name and story. This all new series deals with the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots. Based on true events the series surrounds the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s. It all starts as Félix Gallardo, played by Diego Luna, attempts to unify traffickers in order to build an empire. Season one will see DEA agent Kiki Camarena move from California to Guadalajara to take on a new position, along with his wife and son. The agent, played by Michael Peña, quickly grasps that his assignment will be more challenging than he anticipated. As Kiki garners intelligence on Félix and becomes more entangled in his mission, a tragic chain of events unfold, affecting the drug trade and the war against it for years to come.
The series will highlight the Mexican trafficking world in which there were a loose and disorganised confederation of independent growers and dealers at the time. The Narcos: Mexico team took to Twitter to share the excitement saying "New country. New cartel. New empire." in a recent tweet (@NarcosNetflix).
