Scarlett Johansson becomes a cyborg for the 2017 film version of the Japanese Ghost in the Shell.
Ghost in the Shell was originally published as a manga by Masamune Shirow in 1989. Six years later, the Japanese comic book was made into an anime movie with the same title.
Now, Hollywood’s live-action remake of the 1995 cult film is on the way, seeing Scarlett Johansson in the lead role. The movie, which hits the cinemas on March 31, 2017, is directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White & The Huntsman).
Ghost in the Shell is set in the mid-21st century and tells the story of the fictional counter-cyberterrorist organisation Public Security Section 9 which is lead by the cyborg police woman Major Motoko Kusanagi, played by Johansson. The main cast also includes Michael Pitt, Juliette Binoche and Michael Wincott.
