Take a look at Heath Ledger’s life behind the scenes in the recently released trailer of a documentary which captures the life and career of a fallen star.
A trailer for the upcoming documentary about the Australian actor, I Am Heath Ledger, has been released by Spike TV, where the film will air later this month.
The nearly three minute long clip features rare footage of Ledger, captured through home videos.
“Heath was the most alive human and if it wasn’t on the edge, it didn’t interest him.” Ben Harper, a friend, says at the beginning of the trailer as he tries to explain Ledger’s character.
Heath Ledger, who was known for roles as in Brokeback Mountain, 10 Things About You or The Dark Knight, died in 2008 of an accidental prescription drug overdose. Now, nearly 10 years after his death, the Spike TV documentary tries to give an insight into the actor’s complex character.
The 90-minute film will not only feature a candid view of Ledger through his home videos, but will also see interviews with his family, friends and collegues exploring his career and private life. Also Ledger’s personal passion for photography and film is presented.

“There were always cameras around. A video camera, a polaroid camera, a film camera. It’s the only way I think of him, with the camera in his hand.” Another of Ledger’s friends, Christina Cauchi, mentions.
“He was always a director. Acting was just the way to get there.” Trevor Di Carlo added.
Heath Ledger left his Australian home in young years to pursue an acting career in the United States. After playing a few smaller parts, his first commercial breakthrough came with his role in 2001’s A Knight’s Tale. The actor worked and took part in many famous film productions afterwards. His last role was the performance as Tony in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which was only half completed at the time of his death.
For Ledger’s last full role as the critically acclaimed Joker in The Dark Knight the actor was awarded posthumous as the best supporting actor.
“Even as a supporting actor he will steal the whole show,” said Ang Lee, who directed Brokeback Mountain in 2006.
The trailer for the documentary was released yesterday, April 4, which would have been Ledger’s 38th birthday.
I Am Heath Ledger will premiere on Spike on May 17, 2017.
