The Streaming site bought the rights to the film after it wowed at Sundance.
For those who want to retain their faith in the purity of organised sport , look away now. Netflix have released the first trailer for Icarus , an upcoming documentary that looks to blow the lid off the the long rumored doping that has recently tainted multiple events at the Olympics.
Released on the popular platform worldwide on August 4, Icarus appears to focus namely on the Russian government's alleged mass doping of their athletes and the subsequent cover up. The wider scale of the problem is also addressed in a work that is sure to unsettle anyone who believes the professional game is a fair one.
Interviewed is Grigory Rodchenkov, the Russian "mastermind that cheated the Olympics". Rodchenkov maintains that not only was his country carrying out these dopings but also that Putin and other high ranking officials knew it was happening because they were the ones who continued to order it.
Icarus was shown at the Sundance film festival where it won the U.S. Documentary Orwell Award.
