The film stars Oscar nominee Lucas Hedges and is directed by Joel Edgerton
Australian actor-filmmaker Joel Edgerton (The Gift) has recruited his country's finest actors for his sophomore directorial effort Boy Erased.
The drama centres on the topic of conversion therapy. Based off Garrard Conley's memoir of the same name, Three Billboards and Lady Bird actor Lucas Hedges stars as the teenage son of a US baptist pastor (Russell Crowe) and car salesman (Nicole Kidman) outed as gay.
His parents decide to send him to a conversion camp where a therapist (played by director Edgerton) tries to 'fix' him. Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea is seen in the trailer as a staff member at the camp.
This is the second conversion camp-focused drama on the horizon. The trailer for Desiree Akhavan's The Miseducation of Cameron Post dropped last week. That film will premiere in Ireland at Dublin's Gaze Film Festival on August 4.

An Irish release date has not been set for Boy Erased but it will be out in the US November 2, 2018, suggesting it could be an Oscar contender.
