Prepare to be spellbound.
'90s kids will fondly remember 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch' originally played by Melissa Joan Hart. Well, Sabrina Spellman is getting a 2018 makeover as Netflix reboot the character in a new series, 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'. Kiernan Shipka takes on the iconic character in the brand new series, Part 1 out 26 October.
Torn between her mortal life and her family's legacy, the series follows young Sabrina as she is faces a life-changing decision. The half-witch half-mortal must choose between her two worlds before she reaches her 16th birthday. The reboot will include at least ten episodes in its first season. Netflix have hinted at a possible second season even before the premiere of the first.
The 'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina' came about as a spin-off to the popular Netflix series, 'Riverdale'. The two Netflix originals evolved from Archie Comics. Sabrina Spellman made her first debut in the comics in 1962. The series will be set in Greendale, a town often mentioned in 'Riverdale'. It has also been confirmed that the 'Riverdale' producers will also work on the remake.
Fans will recognise many familiar characters in the reboot. Zelda and Hilda Spellman are included in the new series, but will not be depicted as the doting aunties we remember. Instead, expect devil worshipping and dark magic. Of course the creators had to include sarcastic Salem, the family cat. The role which was played by five different cats throughout the series. Actor and R5 band member Ross Lynch assumes Sabrina's love interest, Harvey Kinkle. Lynch starred in 'My Friend Dahmer' in 2017, a film based on the life of American serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. It will be interesting to see if squeaky clean Harvey Kinkle will develop a mean streak from Lynch's portrayal.
OG Sabrina Melissa Joan Hart revealed she supports the more macabre Sabrina. In an interview with E! News, Hart said “I think what they’re doing is smart, doing the darker version. I think it’s going to be more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer than the Sabrina that most people know."
