The most memorable aspects of the hit 2015 movie were real.
If you haven’t watched 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road, you should change that. Action spectacle movies rarely receive much attention at the Academy Awards, and, yet, this movie got a whopping eleven nominations, of which it won six.
Fury Road was George Miller’s return to the Mad Max series of films after a thirty-year hiatus. During that time, he made two talking pig movies and two dancing penguin movies. The director first conceived of an idea for a fourth film way back in 1998. Shooting was set to begin in 2001, but was set back by the 9/11 terrorist attacks. With a series of controversies surrounding Mad Max veteran Mel Gibson, George Miller looked to find a replacement for the character. The movie hit several more roadblocks, no pun intended, before principal photography began in 2012.
The wait was worth it though. What audiences received was true workmanship. Notably, most of the film’s visuals were practical. Scenes were shot on location, and all the highly detailed vehicles were designed and built, only for most to be destroyed in real life, resulting in their destruction in the film.

This new video shows off unedited footage of various memorable scenes, many involving the destruction of the aforementioned vehicles. As we can see from this footage, computer generated effects were used to enhance the visuals, but were not the focus as so many modern blockbusters are.
