The truce that ended the Irish War of Independence came into effect on July 11, 2021.
Irish indie band Under Starling have shared a new song and video, 'Purple Heights', which was created to remember those lost during the Irish War of Independence, which ended 100 years ago.
The music video – directed by lead singer Danny Dunford and shot by Ruari O'Neill –conjures up memories of The Wind That Shakes The Barley, with excellent costume choices and stunning footage of the Irish countryside.
Danny was inspired to write the track as his great-uncle was killed during the war at an event known as Burgery Ambush in March 1921 near the band's hometown of Dungarvan.
"With this track, we want to honour those who fought and died during the war for us to have this right today," said the band in a press release.
Sampled in the song is a speech given by Éamon De Valera in response to Winston Churchill about Ireland's neutrality during World War II.

"It shows that Irish people now have a voice and the choice to decide their own fate."
More than 2,000 people died during the Irish War of Independence. Those lost were remembered at a ceremony at Collins Barracks in Dublin last Friday.
