Rosetta Cucchi has been appointed as the new director of the Wexford Festival Opera.
The Board of Wexford Festival Opera has announced that Rosetta Cucchi has been appointed as the new Artistic Director of the Festival. She will take up the six-year position when the current Artistic Director David Agler finishes his tenure in November.
Rosetta's first association with the WFO began in 1995 during which she acted as a répétiteur. Subsequently, she went on to have her directorial debut at the Opera in 2004 with Braunfels' Prinzessin Brambila. She has directed a total of three other operas with the WFO and will direct Adina by Rossini and La Cucina by Andrew Synnott as part of the 2019 Wexford Festival Opera schedule.
With a range of experience to her name from her work as a concert pianist, Artistic Director of Lugo Opera Festival and the Arturo Toscanini Foundation (FAT), and more besides, Rosetta brings a wealth of talent to her new role.
Speaking about her appointment, Rosetta said, “I am happy and honored to be appointed Artistic Director of the Wexford Festival Opera. I have a great passion for the Festival and the people who make it possible. My vision will be to preserve its great tradition while at the same time, bring a touch of new breath to it. To quote Jonathan Swift, “Vision is the art of seeing things invisible.”

Dr. Mary Kelly, Chairwoman of Wexford Festival Opera congratulated Rosetta on her new appointment, saying, “I am really looking forward to working with Rosetta in her new role as Artistic Director as I begin my own position as Chairwoman of this world-renowned Festival.”
