The comedy star grew up witnessing the unstable life his father Lee Ferrel led touring with the Righteous Brothers, and says he wanted none of showbiz.
Hot Press' Roe McDermott spoke with comedy superstar Will Ferrell in this month's issue.
Ferrell reveals that he wanted a "real job" growing up, as he felt a lifestyle like his father's wasn't for him.
"The instability of that life was something I never wanted," Ferrell reflects.
It would be hard to imagine the man who played wild roles such as Buddy the Elf and Ron Burgundy fitting into an office space. But the 49-year-old actor says he would like to take on more serious characters as time goes on.
"People still put you in boxes and categories so it's hard to be considered for those types of projects, but I'm very open to playing more serious roles," he says.

The comedian can relate to the film, and admits he has already set up college funds for his three young sons.
