The show has proved hugely popular with Irish audiences.
After having previously been teased over the past couple of weeks, it has today been confirmed that The Young Offenders will be returning to TV screens this December for a one-off Christmas special.
Following on from the hugely successful BBC series and IFTA-winning feature film of the same name, the special was filmed in Cork in October and will air on both BBC Three and RTÉ.
The show is set to feature a guest-starring role from celebrated Irish actor Robert Sheehan, as well as the returning characters of Conor (Alex Murphy), Jock (Chris Walley) and Mairead (Hilary Rose), and will see the trio get up to hospital-based bedlam.

"It's Christmas week, and the residents of the estate where Conor, Jock and Mairead live have been fighting off an eviction from the council for over a month," according to the plot. "The residents have created a barricade to show their determination that they won't be moved to make way for the estate to be renovated. While all this is happening, Mairead has been sick for weeks and has to be taken to hospital. The situation proves to be more serious than thought and not knowing how to help, the lads ask Mairead if there's anything they can get her. The two friends set off on a chaotic adventure to try make her wish come true and in the process find out something about themselves and the value of empathy."
The Young Offenders Christmas special is set to air on BBC Three on the 14th of December, though a broadcast date for RTÉ has yet to be confirmed.
