Born and raised in Stoneybatter, Sam Donnelly is owner of the hugely popular Sam's Barbers.
“What makes our barber on Prussia Street different is that the Donnelly family have been trading in the Stoneybatter and Prussia Street area for over 40 years,” says Sam Donnelly, proprietor of Sam’s Barbers. “We have seen the change, with locals and non-locals moving into the area and blending well. When you walk into the shop and look at all the antiques and bits and pieces on the wall, that reflects the changes in the area.”
Sam has lived in Stoneybatter his entire life and feels that the personal element of his barber’s is vital when working in Dublin 7. Entering his ’30s style studio with a modern edge, dozens of trinkets and souvenirs can be seen adorning the walls and ceiling.
“All the little bits and pieces have been donated by customers in the area,” he notes. “It’s a piece of history.”
While there are a number of Sam’s Barbers locations around the city, there is an originality to this small shop nestled in the Park Shopping Centre.
“That’s why I always say the Sam’s in Prussia Street is different because it’s been there so long. There’s a real sense of uniqueness.”
