Singer-songwriter-producer Zapho has been announced as our latest act for the Hot Press Lockdown Sessions, brought to you by Grace O'Malley Spirits – with a live performance kicking off on the Hot Press Instagram at 19.30 GMT tonight, March 20.

In the face of coronavirus restrictions and the resulting gig cancellations, thousands of musicians and concertgoers across the country have been left disappointed. That's why we're delighted to launch the Lockdown Sessions – bringing you live performances of your favourite Irish artists from the safety and comfort of your home.

Throughout the series, our star-studded line-up will be taking over the Hot Press Instagram account (@hotpressmagazine), and live-streaming performances directly to you – wherever you might be!

This evening, prepare for a stunning set from one of our favourite Irish artists, Zapho – aka Ele Breslin. Blending soul, electro and alt-pop, the Dubliner is fast becoming one of the most formidable talents in the homegrown music scene.

Tonight's performance also marks the release of Zapho's brand new single 'Fight Me'.

"'Fight Me' was one of the most enjoyable songs to write," she says of the single. "I've been experimenting more as a producer and coming into my own style, having fun with themes and groove based instrumentation. I included a little brass section to tip my hat to the Rocky  movies and the theme song, 'Eye Of The Tiger'. I made my fighter more sleazy and flashy, a rags to riches storyline about being at the top of your game."

The track follows the success of her collaboration with Ryan O'Shaughnessy, '100 Ways' – which was the Hot Press Track of the Day back in January.

Like many Irish musicians, Zapho has also been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 restrictions – which have resulted in the cancellation of her Whelan's headliner on April 10, as well as her tour in May. She hopes to re-schedule all live shows later this year.

As such, we're encouraging everyone who enjoys Zapho's performance tonight to support her through this extremely difficult time for musicians at Go Fund Me.
