John Lydon Sr gives Dave Fanning his opinion. Report Stuart Clark.
The Dave Fanning Show stole a march on the tabloids last week when they bagged an exclusive interview with John Lydon Sr. who was visiting his sick sister, Mary, near Knock.
Asked what he thought of John Jr’s I’m A Celebrity… performance, the Da told Fanning: “He’s up to all his old capers! It’s like the ‘70s, isn’t it? I thought the Sex Pistols were great. They were a challenge, nobody else had the bottle. When he wrote ‘God Save The Queen’ he went down the Thames on a boat, that took some guts. I’m proud of everything he’s done. After that I went to the bloody Public Image concerts, they were great!”
As for the veracity of reports that say the ex-Pistol and his wife, Norah, are worth $70 million, he says: “I don’t know, I didn’t count his money! I was over in America with him recently and slept in Mae West’s bed – he owns her house now. He’s a couple of yachts but I don’t bother with them.”
Was he aware that it’s 25 years to the day since Sid Vicious died.
“No, I wasn’t. I knew Sid Vicious when he was going to school, he used to come round my place when I lived in Finsbury Park. He was a bit of a nutcase, him. I chucked him out one evening when he was cutting his jugular vein with a razor blade. I threw him on the lawn head first. You have to be a headcase to do that.”
