We invited a 100-strong chorus of artists, writers, musicians, broadcasters, sports stars and more to contribute to Now We’re Talking, a mental health campaign, run in partnership with Lyons Tea and Pieta House.
I’ve struggled with depression since my teens. I was always a very anxious kid and by the time I was 17 I was really struggling.
It’s a funny thing because the more I’ve talked to people around me, the more I’ve realised it’s common. I’ve also realised people won’t judge me for it or think I’m weak. I’ve been on and off anti-depressants for most of my adult life.
I’ve learned a few things over the years and the main one is, however you feel, secrecy will make it worse. Nothing will burden you more than trying to hide your difficulties from your loved ones.

If you’re struggling with depression or anxiety, be kind to yourself. Take a break, be honest with yourself and with your loved ones. You don’t have to feel this way, and you certainly don’t have to go it alone.
