The nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards were officially announced for the 77th annual honours
Ariana DeBose will host the 77th annual Tony Awards, set to take place on Sunday, June 16 at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater in New York City. DeBose, who is an Oscar winner, will be hosting the Tony Awards for the third consecutive year.
The countdown to the 2024 theatre honours officially began on Tuesday, April 30, with the announcement of the nominations. The Broadway League and the American Theatre Wing present the honours.
This year, a total of 36 Tony-eligible titles opened during the season, including 15 musicals, which is a historic number.
Among the nominees for Best Musical are:
- Hell's Kitchen
- Illinoise
- The Outsiders
- Suffs
- Water for Elephants
And for Best Play:

- Mary Jane
- Mother Play
- Prayer for the French Republic
- Stereophonic

In addition to the main categories, there are several other awards, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Revival of a Play. Productions eligible for Best Revival of a Musical include Cabaret, Gutenberg! The Musical!, Merrily We Roll Along, The Who's Tommy, and The Wiz. For Best Revival of a Play, nominees were chosen from productions like Henrik Ibsen's An Enemy of the People, Branden Jacobs Jenkins' Appropriate, John Patrick Shanley's Doubt, Ossie Davis' Purlie Victorious, and Anton Chekhov's Uncle Vanya.
