And Greta Gerwig is snubbed once again.
This afternoon, Issa Rae and John Cho announced the nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards. The nominations were full of surprises, and many questions were answered.
Co. Carlow's Saoirse Ronan snagged her fourth nomination, this time for best lead actress for her performance in Little Women. Greta Gerwig was, once again, snubbed in the directing category, which is (once again) entirely comprised of male nominees. The Golden Globes proved to be a solid prediction tool for Oscar voters, considering Joker is once again the favourite with eleven nominations. Noah Baumbach's Marriage Story dominated the acting nominations, with nods to Adam Driver, Laura Dern and Scarlett Johansson, who is nominated in both major acting categories. Martin Scorsese's The Irishman picked up a nomination for Best Director, alongside Bong Joon-ho for Parasite. Taika Waititi also made waves with Jojo Rabbit, which snagged nominations in best picture and best adapted screenplay.
