Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached a divorce settlement, marking an end to an eight-year dispute, Reuters reports.

“This is just one part of a long ongoing process that started eight years ago," said Jolie's lawyer James Simon. "Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she is relieved this one part is over.”

Simon added that a divorce settlement has been signed and filed with the court, though no details of the settlement were revealed.

The filing sparked a bitter and highly-publicised custody dispute, with Pitt being investigated and cleared of child abuse. Both camps made accusations of each other trying to manipulate the media, and the couple initially reached an equal custody agreement through a private judge in 2021.

“She doesn’t speak ill of him publicly or privately. She’s been trying hard to be light after a dark time,” a source close to Jolie said, according to her lawyer’s statement. The source added that the couple's children wanted their mother to “speak up for herself, to defend herself over these years.”

Jolie had been previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton. Pitt meanwhile, was married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston in 2003. There were reports of an affair between Jolie and Pitt during the filming of Mr & Mrs Smith, with the former telling Vogue that they were just "very good friends."

The couple 'officially' started dating in 2005 and wed in August 2014.
