A short film which sheds a light on the stories of women from Ballymun, 'Mná na Munna' will have a free public screening at the Axis community centre.
For International Women's Day, Axis Ballymun have announced a free screening of short film Mná na Munna, which exhibits the personal stories from the women Ballymun in north Dublin. The screening will be held tomorrow, Friday 8 March, at 11 AM in Axis Ballymun.
The film was directed by Natasha Wilson and Michelle Gifford and produced by Bread&Circus. Engaging in conversation circles, the women divulge their "experiences, challenges, inspirations, who and what motivates them and their hopes for the younger generation."
"It takes a village to raise a family, and in old Ballymun, if your own Mammy wasn't there, you knew you could knock into a neighbour, or your best friend's Mammy would look after you," says one woman. "You were reared in a community of women, and they did everything together."
"There are lots of strong women in Ballymun, when I started working in Young Ballymun, there were so many women there, [they were] well educated, but they were happy to sit and chat and talk to you and explain to you how you could aspire to do the same sort of things."
