This year’s show on February 26th will be broadcast via Netflix’s YouTube channel before moving globally to that streaming service in 2024.
Leading this year's Screen Actors Guild (SAG) award nominations with five nods apiece, The Banshees of Inisherin and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once are sweeping the categories.
After taking home the Golden Globe in the category last week, Colin Farrell has again been nominated for Best Actor in a Lead Role. The 46-year-old star is up against Austin Butler, Brendan Fraser, Bill Nighy and Adam Sandler.
What starts off as an inviting Irish homestead proves to be somewhat of downtrodden and endless tale of the unremitting attempts at a lost friendship by poor Pádraic (played by Farrell) in Banshees.
The film is set on an island off the west coast of Ireland in 1923, towards the end of the gruesome civil war that pitted friends and families against each other. With central themes of justice, vengeance, and toxicity, the film brings about a slow and tumultuous turn of events on the imaginary isle of Inisherin.
Independently, Banshees of Inisherin holds nominees in three other categories, including Best Supporting Actress for Kerry Condon. The Thurles-born actor is up against Angela Bassett for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever; Hong Chau The Whale; Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu for Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Farrell's co-stars Barry Keoghan and Brendan Gleeson both received nominations in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category alongside Paul Dano for The Fablemans, Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All At Once) and Eddie Redmayne (The Good Nurse), and of course, Colin Farrell, Martin McDonagh’s lead actor.
The awards are set to take place on Sunday, February 26th in Los Angeles, at Fairmont Century Plaza.
Martin McDonagh's lead contenders for Best Picture are Damien Chazelle’s Hollywood period drama, Babylon, Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical story, The Fabelmans, and Sarah Polley’s take of sexual assault in a religious community, Women Talking.
The Oscar nominations arrive on January 24th. Drawing votes from members of the now combined Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the body inevitably gives some clues as what way the largest branch in the academy – the actors – might be leaning. All four winners of the acting prizes at SAG last year went on to convert at the Oscars.
Last night, The Banshees of Inisherin cast went home empty handed at the Critics Choice Awards.
