Irish actor Barry Keoghan is one of Marvel's new superheros.
Two years ago, Barry Keoghan was hailed as a "rising star in Hollywood" by the Hollywood Reporter. Turns out, they were right. The Irish actor landed a big role in the new Marvel movie The Eternals, as announced at Disney's D23 Expo last weekend.
Barry Keoghan is set to play Druig, a superhuman with the abilities to teleport, fly and manipulate all forms of matter and energy, amongst other things. In the comics, the character alternates between the good and the bad side.
The Dublin actor is most definitely in good company, joining a cast of A-listers like Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harington, Kumail Nanjiani and Salma Hayek.
Filming at the Pinewood Studios in England already started in July. The Eternals is set to be released on November 6, 2020.
The Marvel role is a dream come true for the 26-year-old. After news broke, Keoghan posted a tweet he shared six years ago, that was directed at the late Stan Lee and that said: "Please make me a superhero".

Barry Keoghan garnered attention with excellent performances in critically-acclaimed movies like Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing Of A Sacred Dear. He also played a main part in the HBO series Chernobyl.
Hot Press previously talked to the Irish star about his rise to fame and what it's like to be one of Hollywood's most promising actors. Keoghan said:
"Everyone who is close to me has remained the same. That's the nice thing about it. They're excited to find out what some actors are like in person, but that's it – it's excitement and pride, rather than begrudging. But it's a weird one, that someone they know got out and is doing all this stuff – and I don't just mean in my neighborhood. It's not heard a lot about in Ireland, for lads to go away and do that."
