The Irish Premiere of Bird, directed by Andrea Arnold and starring Barry Keoghan, will take place on Tuesday October 22 in Dublin’s Lighthouse Cinema. The film is set to be released in cinemas on November 8 across Ireland and the UK. Bird received its world premiere at this years 77th Cannes Film Festival in May.
Arnold (American Honey, Fish Tank and Cow) will be in attendance and set to take part in a Q&A prior to the screening hosted by Hot Press film editor Roe McDermott.
Set in Arnold's home county of Kent, Bird is a coming of age story about marginalised life on the borders of contemporary society. 12-year old Bailey (Nykiya Adams) lives with her turbulent single father Bug (Barry Keoghan) and brother Hunter (Jason Buda) in a squat. Seeking adventure as she approaches her teens, Bailey meets Bird (Franz Rogowski), a mysterious stranger on a journey of his own.
The film also features Fontaines D.C guitarist, Carlos O'Connell, who got involved in the project after Arnold showed interest in using their music in the film. Carlos told us in a recent interview, "I asked if I could come down to the set, just to be there, and see the magic happen. If I can be anywhere that’s inspiring, I’ll go there. I didn’t even ask to be a part of it in any other way. But Andrea’s amazing. She was like, ‘Why don’t you come in, and I’ll write a part for you.’ And she kept calling me in for more. It was a nice thing to be inside of – seeing the way all these different people work.”

Alice Black, head of cinema for the Lighthouse and Pálas in Galway commented, "We've been fans and champions of Andrea Arnold's fierce and beautifully observed work for almost two decades. We love how she brings unseen lives into the light, uncovering new talent in the process and showing how inner strength can triumph in the most difficult environments. We can't wait to welcome her to our (Light) House and hear what she has to say about the extraordinary Bird.”
