Disney just released information about a new documentary about The Beach Boys coming May 24
Disney+ is set to release a new documentary, The Beach Boys, about the California band's story, on May 24. Directors Frank Marshall and Thom Zimny described the doc as “a celebration of the legendary band that revolutionised pop music and the iconic, harmonious sound they created that personified the California dream, captivating fans for generations and generations to come.”
The synopsis says that the doc "traces the band from humble family beginnings and features never-before-seen footage and all-new interviews" with current members Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston, as well as former member David Marks.
Music stars like Lindsey Buckingham, Janelle Monáe, Ryan Tedder, and Don Was contribute to the narrative. Former band members Carl and Dennis Wilson, Blondie Chaplin, and Ricky Fataar are also featured.
Along with the documentary's premiere, a soundtrack will be available for streaming on May 24, and the Beach Boys' 1964 album Shut Down, Vol. 2 will be released on limited edition blue-and-white marble vinyl on March 29. The group's official book, The Beach Boys by the Beach Boys, will also hit stores on April 2.

Formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961, The Beach Boys have left a long-lasting mark on American culture for over six decades. With more than 100 million records sold worldwide, their debut album, Surfin' Safari, was released in 1962 after signing with Capitol Records. Throughout the 1960s and beyond, the band achieved success, with over 80 songs charting worldwide, including 36 in the US Top 40. They also had four chart-topping hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
Recognized for their contributions to music, The Beach Boys received The Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Grammy and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.
