Bob Dylan's 1975 album Blood on the Tracks is set to be made into a film, reports US entertainment website Deadline.com. The drama will be directed by Luca Guadagnino, who was the man behind the Oscar-winning Call Me by Your Name, and the screenwriter will be Richard LaGravenese (Behind the Candelabra, The Fisher King).

“It sounds like a fascinating idea,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes says. “Never mind being one of Dylan’s landmark records, Blood On The Tracks ranks – without a shadow of doubt – among the greatest albums of all time. Musically, it is almost minimalist, for the most part, but it still achieves a remarkable cinematic quality. That comes down to Bob Dylan’s extraordinary ability as a story-teller, and the magnificently vivid pictures he creates through his lyrics.

"I could see a much longer narrative based around ‘Tangled Up In Blue’ alone. But then you think of the mystery and power of songs line ‘Simple Twist of Fate’, ‘Idiot Wind’, ‘You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go’, ‘Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts’ and ‘If You See Her, Say Hello’ and realise: this has epic potential. It is a truly astonishing record, so I hope the adaptation does it complete justice. It is a big ask – but we will see. It could be amazing."

Blood on the Tracks includes a number of Dylan classics, including 'Tangled Up in Blue', 'Simple Twist of Fate' and 'Shelter from the Storm'. 'Tangled Up In Blue', a sweeping, non-linear love story, is surely worthy of the film treatment, even as a standalone track. Relive the song here:
