Ahead of the 2021 Oscars ceremony on April 25, the shortlists of nine award categories were announced last night – including the shortlist for Best Original Song. Of the 105 songs eligible in the category, the 15-strong shortlist will now advance in the award category.
At last year's Oscars, Elton John won Best Original Song for the second time in his career – with '(I'm Gonna) Love Me Again' from Rocketman. Other previous winners include Bob Dylan (for 'Things Have Changed' from Wonder Boys), Eminem (for 'Lose Yourself' from 8 Mile), Annie Lennox (for 'Into The West' from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King), Adele (for 'Skyfall' from Skyfall) A. R. Rahman (for 'Jai Ho' from Slumdog Millionaire), Lady Gaga (for 'Shallow' from A Star Is Born) and Glen Hansard & Markéta Irglová (for 'Falling Slowly' from Once).
Among the notable inclusions on this year's shortlist is 'Wuhan Flu' from Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, performed by Sacha Baron Cohen.
Will Ferrell and My Marianne's 'Husavik', from Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, is also featured – alongside Janelle Monáe's 'Turntables', Mary J. Blige's 'See What You've Done', H.E.R.'s 'Fight For You', Celeste's 'Hear My Voice' and more.
