Brendan Gleeson has been tipped by some critics for a long-awaited Oscar nomination for his depiction of Colm Doherty in dark comedy The Banshees of Inisherin.
Irish star Brendan Gleeson is confirmed to host the celebrated US live comedy show Saturday Night Live for the second instalment of the new season, following Miles Teller and preceding Megan Thee Stallion.
The Dublin-born actor will make his debut on the show alongside Willow, who will perform as the musical guest during Gleeson's episode. The special is set to air under a month from now on October 8.

The role of host on SNL traditionally involves writing a monologue for the show's opening - as well as having a hand in writing and directing sketches. As a film director and the recipient of a handful of acting and directing awards, Gleeson is sure to rise to the occasion. The last Irish host seen on SNL was Saoirse Ronan back in 2017.

Gleeson's debut on SNL leads up to the release of his newest film, The Banshees of Inisherin, which stars the acclaimed actor along with Colin Farrell, Kerry Condon and Barry Keoghan. The Martin McDonagh-directed film is set to open in cinemas on October 21, and is seen to be one of the most highly-anticipated films to premiere this year. Filmed in Galway, it has already received the award for Best Screenplay at the Venice International Film Festival.
