The biopic will be made by the producers of 'Mamma Mia'.
Cher announced via Twitter on Wednesday (May 19th) that a biopic about her life will be made by Universal Pictures.
The singer and actress turns 75 today, and will team up with Mamma Mia producers Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman and Oscar-winning writer Eric Roth who is known for his work on Forrest Gump and A Star is Born. Cher will also help produce the film.
Roth previously worked with Cher on 1987’s mystery thriller, Suspect. Cher also appeared in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again as Donna (Meryl Streep)'s mother.
The movie currently remains untitled and it is unclear if it will span across the pop icon’s entire life or focus on a particular time. The cast for the biopic also remains under lock and key.
Cher shot to prominence in the 60’s with her-then husband Sonny Bono and their worldwide hit ‘I Got You Babe,’ which was a number 1 in the US and the UK. Cher went on to sell 100 million records in a massively successful solo career and also won a best actress Oscar for 1987’s Moonstruck.

“Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true-life odyssey to the big screen,” said producer Craymer in a press release.
“One cannot help but be drawn to and inspired by Cher’s larger-than-life talent, fortitude, unique wit, warmth, and vision. Her unparalleled success in music film and tv has inspired generations. We could not be happier to tell her story to cinema audiences," she added.
A release date for the film has not yet been confirmed.
