Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed the news at the premiere of his BBC show The Town.
Two years after hanging up his flat cap after the series finale of Peaky Blinders, Cillian Murphy is set to return for the film adaptation, the creator confirms.
The film will be set during World War II, and is expected to commence filming at Birmingham's Digbeth Loc Studios in September.
Speaking to BirminghamWorld at the premiere of his new BBC show This Town, Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed that Cillian Murphy, who starred in the series as Peaky Blinder gang leader Thomas Shelby.
“He is definitely returning for it," Knight commented. "We’re shooting it in September just down the road in Digbeth.”
The exciting news follows a recent interview earlier this month where Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for the project.

“I have always said that if Knight delivers a script that I know he can deliver, because he is such a phenomenal writer," Murphy told the Irish Star. "I’ll be there.”
The sixth and final series of Peaky Blinders takes place in 1933 before the start of the Second World War, so the film is set to revisit the characters some years later, picking up where the series left off.
“If we want to watch 50-year-old Tommy Shelby, I will be there," Murphy added. "Let’s do it.”
