""And that's the beautiful thing," Farrell said about the craft of acting in his acceptance speech, "you get to kind of keep the dream of a child alive, to try to figure out what it is to be human".
Colin Farrell just won his first-ever Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award. On Sunday night, he took home the honor for Best Actor in a Limited Series for his performance in Max's The Penguin.
Jamie Lee Curtis presented the award and, as she opened the envelope, joked, “And the Actor goes to… the man who gave me covid at the Golden Globes: Colin Farrell.” When Farrell took the stage, he laughed and replied, “Guilty as charged. But Brendan Gleeson fucking gave it to me! So I was just spreading the love.”
Farrell's win follows his Golden Globe victory for the titular role, and both he and co-star Cristin Milioti also took home Critics' Choice Awards for their performances.
Accepting the award at the Shrine Auditorium Expo Hall, Farrell expressed gratitude toward his fellow nominees.
“It’s strange. So many of you I grew up watching on TV and in films, and so many I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years, sharing in the spirit of collaborative curiosity and all the things we fail at and succeed at. And none of it is ever quantifiable,” he said.

He added: "And that's the beautiful thing, and the annoying thing, about what we do, it’s just unquantifiable. It’s play time. You don’t get to fully grow up. You get to kind of keep the dream of a child alive, to try to figure out what it is to be human and it’s so much fun.
"I want to thank my fellow nominees, Richard [Gaad], Andrew [Scott], Kevin [Kline] and Javier [Bardem]. My deepest respect and admiration for you. And this is, look, it sounds really cheesy, but we’re all supporting actors. You know, I get it. The big parts called the lead, smaller parts, day-players, extras, and all that shit, but we all support each other."
The Castleknock native also acknowledged his sister, Claudine, who he's worked with for over twenty years, saying: "I have to thank my sister who I have worked with for 22 years. I never thank her publicly... She's a producer and she's not my assistant".
Farrell continued to thank his family, saying: "My mom, Rita, my dad, Eamon, and the two people in my life who have made my life so much more special and so much more meaningful, so much more joyful than I ever truly thought possible - my son James and my son, Henry. I love you both, and we're going back to watch Shōgun tonight and finish it up."
Vatican thriller Conclave took home the top honor at a surprising Screen Actors Guild Awards ceremony on Sunday, adding an unexpected twist to the Oscars race just one week before the Academy Awards. Having also won big at Britain's recent BAFTA awards, Conclave now appears a strong, late-breaking contender for the Best Picture Oscar, alongside critical favourites such as The Brutalist.
The film, which delves into the secretive process of selecting a new pope, won the award for Best Cast in a Motion Picture. Its ensemble features Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini.
Accepting the award, Fiennes described the win as a celebration of "community" and emphasized "the supreme importance of it in our work and in the world".
